VBA urgently seeks Veterans Service Representatives

The Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) is actively hiring Veterans Service Representatives (VSR) nationwide. VSRs support Veterans by processing their new and existing benefits claims.

Recently, VA added asthma, rhinitis, and sinusitis as presumptive conditions related to some toxic exposures that may have impacted military service members while on active duty in some recent military operations.

Facing a surge of claims stemming from these newly added conditions, and to help tackle existing claims made by Veterans, VBA is urgently hiring more VSRs at more than 60 locations.

Due to the urgent nature of these positions, these 4 job announcements will close on Sept. 27, 2021:

  • Hiring non Veterans for these positions may cause more appeals. Non Veterans sometimes don't understand the uniqueness of each situation. Currently it's very hard to get a favorable decision then have VA come back and second guess the rater? And this is with experienced folks. Causes undue stress on Veterans

    • Veterans or non veterans are put through the same exact training program. So that particular status is mute. All must pass a very rigorous process to be certified to rate or make decisions.

    • They are special hire categories, such as Veterans, current and former Federal employees, military spouses, etc.

      • Good luck, I've been doing this for 12 years and they make this job harder and harder. I am disabled Veteran and they truly need an overhaul of VBA.

  • The backlog is already unbelievable. How about working on the claims and appeals already in the system?

    • These cases are being worked. COVID has caused operations at the National Personnel Records Center to come to a halt and exams have ramped up since things started opening up in March. Without records, claims can't move forward. Congress passed laws that make more benefits available to more veterans. This is why the additional help is needed.

    • Just curious, how are you without a doubt positive that they aren't!!?? It's very easy to be on the outside looking through a opaque window and pretend you know exactly what going on inside. Hard facts are a totally different thing to master, though it should be the norm and not the exception!!

  • I was medivac’d out of Vietnam due to a skin disease I contracted in Vietnam, along with nerve damage, but my medical treatment records were intentionally withheld, preventing me from filing for Benefits At Discharge while I suffered. It’s now 50+ years and one dead son from Agent Orange and still pursuing justice. I hope you get GOOD HELP, not the kind from the Vietnam Era. VBA hated us and did us wrong, and many still do!

  • these positions are hard to believe....I am a retired disabled veteran and have applied for SO CALLED openings and never had any calls, no interviews, nothing! Plus I have experience in that position....

  • I have a claim irt my back and it been remanded several times and I keep appealjng it since 2011. I injured it during service and VBA has no clue what they are reading. Im currently under evaluation for surgery. Lets take care of back log before you drown in new paperwork

  • Making the positions virtual would attract more applications. I'm not interested in working in Detroit, but would love to apply, otherwise.

  • As a disable Virtnam Veteran
    I agree
I see a lot of a no care attitude from non veteran emploee
Veterans need special needs and help after being in combat operations

    • I am so sorry you have those experiences and I hope things greatly improve. When you see things like that, find someone and bring it to their attention and make sure they provide you with feedback of the solution. Additionally, most folks don't know this, the VA is comprised of 3 different organizations (Veterans Healthcare Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, and National Cemetery Administration). They all have different functions, so please educate yourself on each and identify with whom you are dealing with.

    • Yes! A few exceptions maybe, but you will be required to wear mask 8 hrs. Telework will be ending, and employees have til 11/22/21 to get vaccine. They plan on bringing in all employees back into office in near future. You have to wear there mask that’s given not your own and go through check points.
